The honest answer is: for a new Tesla buyer, almost certainly not — and the reason why is itself useful information the "just compare the numbers" takes online tend to skip.

What the Supercharging Membership actually is

Tesla's Supercharging Membership is a $12.99/month subscription aimed at non-Tesla EV drivers, reported by Electrek in April 2026 alongside a roughly 40% Supercharger price premium that non-member, non-Tesla EVs otherwise pay. The membership brings a non-Tesla EV's per-kWh rate down to roughly what a Tesla owner already pays by default — about a 28% discount versus the non-member non-Tesla rate, breaking even against the fee at around 76 kWh of Supercharging in a month.

A Tesla you order today already gets Tesla-owner Supercharging pricing without any membership fee. The $12.99/month product exists to let other brands' EVs access that same rate — it is not an add-on cost a new Tesla buyer needs to budget for at all. If you've seen a claim that a new Tesla owner "needs" this membership, that claim is simply wrong; check Tesla's own Supercharging support page before believing otherwise.

The break-even math, done honestly anyway

Even though it doesn't apply to your own charging costs, the fee is still a useful dollar anchor for putting your referral benefit in context. Over the length of your 3-month FSD (Supervised) trial (worth $297, per our benefit table), a $12.99/month subscription would cost:

3 × $12.99 = $38.97

Put another way: your referral link's $297 trial value equals $297 ÷ $12.99 ≈ 22.9 months of that subscription fee — nearly two years' worth, for a trial that costs you nothing to claim.

Where the two actually interact

There is one real overlap: if you already own a non-Tesla EV and are cross-shopping a Tesla, dropping the $12.99/month membership (once you switch) is itself a small ongoing saving that stacks with — but is separate from — your new referral link's FSD trial. They're two different lines in your personal EV budget, not competing versions of the same discount.

What about Premium Connectivity?

Don't conflate the Supercharging Membership with Premium Connectivity, a separate Tesla subscription covering things like live traffic visualization, streaming and satellite-view maps — a different product, a different fee, and also unrelated to your referral link's FSD trial. If you switch from a non-Tesla EV mid-membership
