Before you leave the delivery center, open the Tesla app and confirm your new vehicle is linked to your account and payment method — Supercharging won't authorize without it.

Check Supercharger coverage on your actual routes
Tesla runs 60,000+ Superchargers across North America and a new Model Y has full access, but check the specific routes you drive regularly rather than assuming blanket coverage — rural and cross-region routes still vary.

Don't decide on the paid Membership on day one
The $12.99/month Charging Membership lowers your per-kWh rate and pays for itself at roughly 4+ Supercharging sessions a month — but you don't know your real pattern on delivery day. Wait for actual charging receipts before subscribing.

Set a 30-day reminder to review your sessions
After a month of real driving, count your Supercharging sessions. At 4 or more, add the Membership; below that, skip it and revisit if your pattern changes.
Why "wait a month" beats "decide today"
The single biggest mistake at delivery is subscribing to the Membership immediately out of habit, or skipping it out of caution, before you actually know your driving pattern. A light second-car driver who mostly charges at home may never hit the roughly 4-session-a-month threshold where the $12.99 pays for itself; a frequent road-tripper might clear it in the first two weeks. One real month of receipts settles the question better than a guess on delivery day.
Don't let this checklist eclipse the one-time item
