Model Y kept its referral eligibility in the March 2026 overhaul — but "kept eligibility" isn't the same as "nothing changed." Here's the Model-Y-specific read.
Model 3, Model Y and Cybertruck all stayed on the referral-eligible list after Tesla's March 2026 overhaul — Model S and Model X are the ones that lost the benefit entirely. If you're specifically looking at a Model Y, that's the good news. What a Model Y buyer keeps
The 3-month free FSD (Supervised) trial — worth about $300 at the standalone $99/month rate — still applies to a Model Y order, exactly as it did before the overhaul. It still auto-activates around delivery with no coupon to redeem, and it still applies whether you're ordering a Standard RWD or, as of this July's launch, the new six-seat Model Y L. Referrers still earn $250 in Tesla Credits per successful vehicle referral, capped at 10 a year — unchanged by this overhaul.
What changed and is easy to miss if you're upgrading
If you already own a Tesla and are upgrading to a new Model Y, the loyalty discount you'd apply on top of the referral link was cut from $1,000 to $500 in this same overhaul. That's a real, specific number: a returning owner ordering a new Model Y today gets $500 less loyalty credit than the same order would have carried before March 2026, on top of whatever the referral link adds. Don't plan your upgrade budget around the old $1,000 figure.
The 12-month clock now applies to your Model Y credit too
Referral and loyalty credits granted on a Model Y order now expire 12 months after the Grant Date, same as every other eligible vehicle. If you're the owner side of a Model Y referral — sharing your link so a buyer gets the FSD trial — make sure whoever you refer is actually ordering within that window, or the credit you were expecting can lapse before it's used.
The practical Model Y checklist
- Open your referral link before configuring, whether you're ordering Standard, Long Range, Performance, or the new Model Y L.
- If you're a returning owner, re-check the loyalty amount at $500, not the old $1,000, before budgeting an upgrade.
- Confirm the FSD trial line in your order summary before paying, same as any other eligible model.
- If you're referring someone into a Model Y order, don't let more than 12 months pass between the Grant Date and their order.
